friday fixation: colour dipped marshmallows

I had this weird idea yesterday to colour dip marshmallows as an unexpected Valentine treat. I didn't think they'd turn out at all, but they ended up working so well and looking so cute that now it makes me want to colour-dip the whole bag!

Just add a few drops of food colouring to some water, then dip in a marshmallow. Set it aside on a cooling rack to dry. The amount of colouring and water is up to you depending on how dark or light you want the colours to be.

That's it! Super simple, right?

We have beautiful friends visiting tomorrow, they would adore these as much as we all do. How long do they take to dry? Will I have time to get dipping in the morning?

Anon: I can't remember the exact time they took to dry, but I'm pretty sure it was less than 20 minutes. Just make sure they don't sit in a pool of liquid or that there's any large drops of colouring left on them. That'll help them dry faster.

Looks like a great idea, so pretty. Do you think painting them would work too?

Idle Wife said...

Cally: Yup, painting would work just fine. I've seen many examples of marshmallows being painted!

Adorable, and I bet they would look cute dyed orange, purple, green, or black for Halloween.
I need to try this, and I may add flavoring to the dye as well. Mmmm, raspberry flavored....
Love your idea!
